Miniature Child Portrait in Gem Studded Brooch     ON HOLD

$2,100.00
This is one of the most beautiful early Victorian miniature portraits of a child set into the most gorgeous pendant/brooch frames I have ever seen. A real museum-quality piece. I think it is French, but it was suggested to me that it may be Russian. The brooch is 18K gold (tested). Set with 21 mine cut diamonds (at least 1 ct. total weight) and 3 emeralds (about .15-20 pts total). Each of the 21 flowers that adorn the frame contains a stone, and is INDIVIDUALLY screwed on to the frame! This was obviously made by a master jeweler. There are even 3 diamonds in the ribbon. And it is quite large. The blue enameling and gold engraving which frames the gently convex glass is stunning. The pin mechanism of the brooch is perfect. Now to the ivory miniature. She is gorgeous. A 3/4 length portrait of a little girl - around 3 or 4 years old - holding a posy. She is in very good condition. The back is closed (has been opened and reclosed) with a mother of pearl disk. There are no hallmarks or signatures or any identifying marks on this piece at all. The piece measures almost 2 1/2" high and just over 1 3/4" wide. The hinged pin and C clasp are sturdy. The piece would be worn as a pendant by putting a chain through the ribbon top. Overall weight is 23 grams.
